Help ELES Make a Difference!
We are excited to have several fun opportunities to Make a Difference
this holiday season! Again this year, ELES will be hosting a Giving Tree. We will be partnering with Highland
Springs ES to help provide holiday cheer to some of our neighbors in Henrico County. Our Giving Tree is similar to the
Angel Tree. ELES families will be able to pick an ornament from a tree located in the bay window in the front hallway
of the school starting on Monday, November 25th. Ornaments will have requests for gifts for children
from Highland Springs ES. Wrapped gifts should be numbered with the number on the ornament and placed in the decorated
boxes near the Giving Tree. Please return all gifts to school by Friday, December 13th. Please
note that we are requesting that children NOT take ornaments from the tree. If you are unable to come to school to get
an ornament, but you would still like to participate, please e-mail Pam Dillon at email@example.com. An ornament with a request on it will be sent home with your child.
ELES will also be supporting the Henrico Christmas Mother's Canned Food
Drive again. The SCA will be collecting canned goods in your children's classrooms through Tuesday, November
26th. The teacher of the class that collects the most food will be crowned Echo Lake's 2013 Turkey Queen!
Finally, the ELES Library will be supporting the Christmas Mother program by
collecting new and gently used books through Tuesday, November 26th. Books may be donated in the library
and will given to the Henrico Christmas Mother for distribution during the holiday season.
While we are delighted to have so many opportunities available, please do NOT
feel like you need to participate in all of them. We encourage you to pick an activity that will have special meaning
for your family this holiday season. Thank you for Making a Difference!
to our fabulous art teacher, Ms. Merle James, who was one of seventeen teachers from central Virginia to receive one of the
prestigious REB Awards. The awards are designed to allow teachers to pursue non-traditional academic projects.
Ms. James will visit with Outsider Artists living in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama and bring back stories
about their lives and culture for integration into the social studies, writing, math, art, and science curriculum. We
are so proud of you Ms. James!
